About Me: CTRL-ALT-Geek

Introduction

Hiya! My name is Cade, and I am a 15 y/o high school *introverted* freshman with a passion in IT and exploring technology. Whether it's exploring 2000s tech, managing mini networks in my bedroom, creating websites for fun, or going on the airwaves, I love learning how things work under the hood. Oh yeah, and my favourite colours are orange and purple. Ironically, my favourite holiday is Christmas.

My Technical Background

I'll start off by mentioning that I am a licensed amateur radio operator (73's to the fellow hams out there!). As of right now, I am technician class, and so far only made 1 contact. However, I don't get on the airwaves very often, but that doesn't mean I'm not doing what I do best with technology! My Retro PC Setup image Currently, as of typing this, I am using an HP Media Center PC from 2005 (see image)! I am using legacy hardware to make this very website! I had to improvise with making this website with HTML4 code to make it compatible with legacy browsers. The reason why I made this for legacy browsers like IE7 is because I want to uncover a true 2000s experience, make it work with old PCs and new PCs (broad browser compatibility), make it 2000s style, and create a digital "heritage preservation" zone. My Homelab server (well, laptop) Also, I have an old HP that my uncle gave me that I am currently using as a Proxmox homelab (see other image), hosting a friends-only Minecraft server, private HTTP server, reverse-proxy for legacy hardware, and pi.hole for network wide ad-blocking. To manage my network more effectively, I repurposed my Wi-Fi router from being a basic Wi-Fi access point to a whole subnet, allowing me access to more networking tools and settings to manage my network, kinda like what sysadmins do. I also manage a website, which is the one you are on right now! :)

My System Specs

I'm hosting this website on NeoCities, but I can brag that my homelab has an Intel Core i5-8250U with 8GB of DDR4 RAM, Integrated Intel UHD graphics, and 500GB SSD space for many-a containers and cool things! I can also brag that I have a gigabit internet connection and my own subnet, seperated from our home's main network.

Future Goals in mind:

  • Whenever - learn a bit of JavaScript
  • Spring 2026 - Impress my techy teacher well enough to think I'm a genius or something.
  • Summer 2026 - Start Driving and maybe get a job
  • Late 2026 - Buy my first DNS
  • Future - idk and idc
